A date | A period of time | A wall of memory | A spoken phrase | Several masks | A mirror | A lake — a journey in search of truth.
2026 marks the start of the 70th Anniversary of the YPT golden trio: YAM Kim-fai (Y), PAK Suet-sin (P) and TONG Tik-sang (T). The Dream Series embarks on a cross-disciplinary adventure of creativity and the inner self, radiating into eight projects…
Searching for a dream is like searching for the mirror image of one’s ideal self. In artistic creation, this longing manifests itself in the pursuit of the perfect work — a work that is, in itself, the artist’s mirror image.
We long to polish a perfect mirror that reflects our ideal self. Yet every journey, every relationship and every mask leaves scratches upon its surface. The original mirror image that once represented the dream quietly disappears, replaced by a temporary reflection assembled from fragments, scars and memories.
The artist uses walking as a way of polishing the mirror, setting out from Yau Ma Tei, passing through the East Kowloon Cultural Centre, the old Tsim Sha Tsui Railway Terminus, Victoria Harbour and Lee Theatre, before finally arriving at Repulse Bay. This route is not merely a geographical path, but a timeline traversing different layers of the city’s history. Each location is both a physical place and a symbol of class, mobility, desire, escape and return.
The exhibition explores five masks — the wartime vulnerability of the metropolitan upper class, Du Liniang’s passage through dreams, Bai Suzhen’s non-human acceptance, the confrontation of wills between the Overlord and Han Xin, and Princess Cheung-ping concealed beneath the sublime — revealing the many layers of the true self. A mask does not necessarily conceal truth; sometimes, it is precisely the means by which we approach it.
Finally, we wait for the rain. Rain washes away the boundaries, forming a lake upon the grassland. The mirror image that had disappeared is reborn in another form — no longer the original ideal self, but a temporary reflection formed through walking, love, the body, time, space, masks and scars. It is constantly changing, and in doing so, comes closer to truth.

About the Artist

Edward Cheung is a doctoral candidate in Contemporary Visual Culture at the National Taiwan University of Arts. He holds an MA in Fine Arts from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and trained in art therapy. He has taught as a part-time lecturer in the Department of Fine Arts at CUHK and as an instructor at HKU SPACE, and currently teaches at CUHK’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies (CUSCS). He founded Blueprint Studio in Hong Kong (2015) and Taiwan (2025). Working across painting, performance and installation, the Blueprint series addresses dispersion and assembly, the individual and the collective, city and nature—recombining small units into a whole as a pursuit of an ideal world and a personal utopia. The Tower of Babel concentrates energy and structure; grassland stands for origin and inclusiveness; the mountain for return and simplification.
